To the editor: I wish to begin my letter by expressing my sympathy for victims and families involved in mass shootings. It would have to be horrible beyond words. I cannot change what has happened, but I can address the future.
The mere concept of my country’s control of their own guns being in the hands of Democratic politicians frightens me beyond belief. A wise man told me years ago that he had found a sure way to tell if a Democrat politician is lying. According to him, you merely had to watch their mouth to see if it was moving. That may be a bit harsh to some people but not to me. I have always been puzzled by people who believe what is put out by the media.
I cannot begin to understand someone being that simple. The media relies on an apathetic, uninformed public to promote their ideas of what America really is, mainly a terribly unfair, racist country. I will address a true view of gun violence in America. In 2021, 53 percent of gun deaths were suicide, 43 percent were committed during a crime or gang violence. Of the balance, a miniscule number by comparison, was attributed to mass shootings.
I wish to offer what I believe to be a fact. Perhaps a gun control advocate will disagree. The fact that we are able to ignore the evilness or medical illness in some people escapes me. I challenge anyone to identify any situation involving a firearm where the gun acted on its own. The fact that we can ignore the carnage that takes place involving guns every week in our inner cities defines modern day America.
I do not minimize mass shootings. I merely wish people would accept and admit the fact that the media lies. In closing, I feel that progress could be made on many fronts if politicians would just concentrate on doing their job for the American people. The sheer hunger for power will prevent that from ever happening.
