Cutting through misinformation

To the editor:

I can always count on reading letters to The Northeast Georgian to confirm my belief that American democracy still hangs in the balance. Whether from a right wing nut to the recent letter that Biden is a complete idiot. They are usually filled with lies, misinformation and conspiracy theories.

Hallmark of the Republican party. Pushback letters like mine rarely get printed, I know.

Directed at the recent letter, how about 3.4 percent unemployment, the lowest in 50 years. 12 million jobs added in 2 years. More than any President ever in four years. A boom in building factories, semiconductor chip plants built in the U.S. to take them out of China’s hands. Insulin cap at $35/month. U.S. consumers pay more for meds than any other country because of laws that prohibit our government from negotiating with pharmaceutical companies.

Critical infrastructure is finally being rebuilt creating  more good paying jobs by investing in America’s future. Sounds like Biden knows exactly what he’s doing. ALL of this was overwhelmingly voted against by the Republican party.

Maybe they consider it money better spent as more tax breaks for millionaires. The economy is great. Inflation is the downer. How does any President stop companies from jacking up prices to make up for money lost during a global pandemic? Seems they decided to add $3 to every product. Go to Walmart, 10 items now cost $30 more. Supply chain issues solved. Gas prices are lower. Greed up. Can’t really blame a President for that. Now compare the last four Presidents. The two Republicans ( Bush, Trump) inherited great economies from Democrats. While the two Democrats (Obama, Biden) inherited great recessions from the Republicans. Walked into the White House to a complete mess. This should destroy the myth that economies do better under Republicans. They actually destroy them.

But in the next two years our progress will slow. Republicans won the House. Their priority – get nothing done for the American people. Protect Trump from being held accountable for ALL his crimes. Investigate Hunter. That’s it. State level, banning books, limiting

No Republican is saying Trump didn’t commit all these crimes, just we can’t hold him accountable. Hunter Biden just pleaded guilty today as I write this, to misdemeanor tax crimes (owed $100k for both 2018, 2019). And lying about drug use on a gun purchase application (took a plea deal). How many Democrats are screaming witch hunt and he shouldn’t be held accountable?

ZERO. Biden left the Trump appointed prosecutor on to finish the investigation. Unlike Trump, who had AG Barr fire and remove multiple prosecutors from investigations into Trump and his friends. To the recent letter writer, I pray that we “stupid” voters keep voting for “stupid” Democrats. Our country depends on it.

Radio tower is bad news

To the editor:

I am writing in regards to the proposed radio tower installation on Cider Ridge in Clarkesville and wish to express my extreme opposition to it. I have been a resident of Clarkesville for 36 years. I love Clarkesville, the citizens and the rural community I live in.

I understand Clarkesville needs to update its radio system to support it citizens and I support this endeavor. I am concerned with the placement of the tower directly in a residential neighborhood.

There is an absence of scientific consensus and no proof or recent research that this technology is safe for this population and future generations when it is installed so close to families and directly in a neighborhood.

It is also a concern that after this tower is established, it will continually be added to with carriers and antennas, increasing the level of radiation and exposure in our neighborhood. I have heard over and over again that the tower will only expose me to a small dosage of radiation similar to using my microwave. I do not use my microwave 24/7 as this tower will be running constantly every day all day.

Studies by the World Health Organization have shown that children exposed to tower radiation have experienced severe health effects including increases in rates of asthma, autism, ADHD and other ailments. The effects on adults can include dizziness, migraine headaches, heart palpitations and nosebleeds and possible cancer when the tower is close to their homes.

I am confident that it will be a ‘told you so’ situation when it is realized that health issues surrounding the tower in a residential neighborhood has drastically gone up – there are many studies and bodies of evidence supporting this claim of increased health issues when radio towers are installed directly in residential neighborhoods.

We will see an increase in trucks and service personnel that will be an additional unnecessary public nuisance. The operation of a generator and cooling systems is quite likely to increase noise levels especially for those living close to the tower, and the back-up  generators will add to air pollution in our neighborhood causing more health concerns.

We are praying the county finds another location for the radio tower outside of a residential community that is safe and beneficial for everyone.
