No comparable to the human race
To the editor:
I never tire of studying the activities of the human race. Just when I think I can no longer be surprised, my species always comes through with an incredible, many times almost unbelievable, event.
The propensity for incredible achievements of the human race is many times eclipsed by the presence of sheer evil. I could furnish endless examples. For example, this last week, a young man dancing to a Beyonce song, was approached in a park and stabbed to death. You might ask why I would even mention this sordid event. I do so, my friend, because it occurs regularly. We live in a time when we have come to accept vicious, violent behavior as the norm, as indeed it is. I am an older guy. Within my memory, I recall a time of respect for authority, not because you necessarily agreed, but because at that time we lived by rules, one being that you respected authority, It is my belief that younger generations have been erroneously led to believe that they are somehow exceptional to earlier generations. In my opinion the difference is not necessarily in the makeup of these younger generations.
I see a decided shift in the character of later human generations – parents, politicians, preachers and so forth. I learned so much from my father, a seventh grade graduate. He was truly a man of his word. Of the many examples of modern day deterioration in American character is the ability to ignore the importance of a man’s word. In older generations when they had little else, they always had their word. Moving on: I wish to touch briefly on what I perceive to be the septic condition of modern news networks and their lap-dog reporters.
Once again, as an older guy, I remember a time when a consumer did not have to invest time separating real fact, actual news, from the biased, slanted drivel that we are force fed daily.
I watch these people daily presenting their pre-packaged dialog, sporting their perfect hair, perfect teeth, custom clothes.
I believe these news people only reinforce my opinion of the absolute decline in what used to be our strength. I find it so sad.
Thanks for listening.
