Raper is a treasure

To the editor: William H. “Bill” Raper is a community treasure.

In his long-time role with the Clarkesville Library, Bill is the go-to source for all things related to Habersham history.

While I am a “come here” to Habersham County, having only lived here for only 23 years, Bill, as a “been here,” has never wavered in his support of my curiosity about my adopted home.

I’d like to echo the sentiments shared by Lynwood Cash in the Jan. 6 edition in thanking the Clarkesville Library staff and the Habersham County Library Board for supporting Bill and emphasizing the importance of maintaining the William H. Raper Heritage Room at the library.

The value of having someone like Bill and the continuation of the collection he has lovingly curated, for generations to come is truly priceless. I encourage the leadership of the Habersham County Library Board to make protecting the collection a priority in future planning.

I invite others to share their thoughts and appreciation for Bill’s countless contributions to preserving and sharing our local history.
