To the editor: Does my opinion matter? I hope it does, so hear me out. I grew up in the 50s, came to the U.S. in 1961 when I was 18. I have seen a lot of changes in our life since then. But I have never experienced what is now occurring.
The values that we held dear – such as being a “man” or a “woman,” marriage between a “man and woman,” restrooms for men separate from women, etc. – are being lost. The idea that a man who just considers himself a woman is allowed now by some states to use a woman’s bathroom or locker and is allowed to compete in women’s sports is totally absurd and alien to me.
The normalization of drug use, the homelessness situation, the use of race by many of our elected politicians dividing our country are reopening the wounds that had healed.
Taking down statues, however conflictive they might be, they are part of our history. And so on. Just remember that you have a right and a privilege to vote. I consider it a duty.
I hope and pray that our Judeo-Christian values are once again what we thrive for.
