Raiders open XC season
Habersham Central Cross Country made a trip to Winder Saturday to kick off its season at the Apalachee High School Season Opener 2023.
The Hotard twins got their new campaign off to a solid start. Audrey took 2nd place out of 138 with a time of 19:28 – just 4 seconds behind winner Kennedy Wardle of Brookwood. Abigail meanwhile, took 13th, posting a 21:16.
On the boys’ side, Hab senior Aiden Thaxton finished 4th out of 157. Thaxton ran a 16:22. Connor Gebora took 29th with an 18:10.
As a team, the boys contingent from Habersham placed 12th out of 23.
Lady Indians rebound with straight-set volleyball wins
The Lady Indians needed a boost and got it by way of two wins on Thursday night at East Hall, ending a 4-match slide in the process.
TFS first beat Johnson 25-14, 25-16 to take a straight set victory. Everyone got in some playing time, with Ashlyn Yaskiewicz, Skylyn Yaskiewicz, and Addy McCoy leading in kills. Freshman Dunja Vukelic got her first varsity minutes and had some key digs.
“It was a great night for everyone to shine offensively,” says coach Matt Heyl.
The Lady Indians then beat East Hall 25-16, 25-17 to create a new two-match win streak. TFS is now 6-9 overall.
Lady Indians run in NEGA meet
Tallulah Falls opened its cross country season on Saturday morning at the Northeast Georgia XC Championships, hosted by Athens Christian in Athens. The varsity girls came in 4th place, while the boys finished 10th. TFS fielded JV squads as well, and the MS teams came in 6th (girls) and 7th (boys).
Josie Chesser paced the Lady Indians with a 23rd-place finish, as Delaney Johnson was a few seconds behind her. The varsity boys were led by Timothy Beck (23rd) and Teagan Penland (25th).
Olivia Henderson was 5th in the JV girls race, while Mia Kerr (4th) and Mary Kate Ball (9th) led the girls MS run. Sam Belk paced the MS boys with a 29th-place finish.
