The Tallulah Falls girls tennis team advanced to the Georgia High School Association Elite 8 for the first time in program history as the Lady Indians defeated Galloway Monday afternoon.
The 3-1 victory over the visiting Lady Scots was powered by two exciting doubles wins. Junior Katarina Foskey and freshman Azaria Junaid held firm as the Indians No. 1 Doubles duo, securing a 6-4, 6-2 win. Almost simultaneously, senior Cassidy Haynes and sophomore Landry Carnes delivered the dagger for TFS – winning their No. 2 Doubles match 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
Due to freshman Ava Carnes falling in the 3-singles spot and Ariel Kelsick’s No. 1-singles match being called, freshman Jaeda-Lee Daniel-Joseph represented the lone singles win for the Lady Indians with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 rout.
TFS remains perfect this season, brandishing a 16-0 record. “Great season for us so far,” said Coach Jennifer Cox. “Excited for what’s next.”
What’s next for the Lady Indians is a showdown against the Bleckley County Royals out of Cochran. Date and time will be announced later this week.
Boys run into stout lineup
The TFS Boys tennis team saw its 15-match winning streak come to an end Monday as the Indians fell 3-0 to an experienced opponent in Whitefield Academy. Just like the Lady Indians, the boys team entered the Sweet 16 matchup with a perfect record on the 2023 season, but was unable to keep pace with the visiting Wolf Pack. The Indians’ top singles players – sophomores Tanner Davis (1) and TJ Cox (2) – each finished the season undefeated as their matches were called following Whitefield clinching on other courts.
Despite a disappointing conclusion to the 2023 campaign, the future looks bright for TFS. With no seniors on this year’s team, 2024 will return a roster loaded with experience and talent.
