The softball program at Tallulah Falls began its re-implementation last season. Several girls came out and participated in a summer camp, practiced, and polished off the season with a scrimmage. Now with a new head coach in Jo Kimbrel, the Lady Indians begin the journey toward official game action.
TFS will compete as a JV program this season, with an eye toward the not-too-distant future of playing a varsity slate. 2023 has plenty of promise for Tallulah Falls, as the team will play 16 games against local schools, including six home contests.
Several of the girls who came out last season return to the diamond this fall.
“Key returners are Katie Anderson and Abby McCoy; both student-athletes have shown the three ‘D`s’...desire, dedicated and determined,” said Kimbrel. “Also, Tahj Charlton played last year and I think she will have a pretty big impact on the team.”
Charlton is a senior, while Anderson is a junior and McCoy a sophomore. It remains to be seen which other players will step into big roles for TFS. Regardless of who, all involved are thrilled for the opportunity to begin to make history.
“I am looking forward to being on the diamond,” said Kimbrel, who will be assisted by Tamara Griffis. “Our goal is to lay a solid foundation this season and be able to build on it for the future. We will have short, mid- and long-range goals as a team as well as individual goals.”
So far, the Lady Indians have had a handful come out every time the field is open.
The softball program existed decades ago, as Tallulah Falls owns a Region Championship back in the 1970s.
TFS opens the season with a road loss Wednesday against Stephens County, with the first home game slated for Wednesday, Aug. 23, also against Stephens. Eight different opponents make up the schedule.
