Demorest is making final preparations to host the Glorious Fourth celebration on Monday, July 4.
The weather includes some chance of rain, but it is not expected to be severe enough to disrupt the festivities.
“It is pretty much rain or shine, and it might be a little overcast at the beginning of the day with maybe a little afternoon rain, but we think it will be fine for the festival,” Demorest City Manager Kim Simonds said.
The day begins in the morning with the 5K Run to Glory starting on Georgia Street in Demorest.
The main event starts at 4 p.m. with a parade that will have a focus on celebrating children. Youngsters will be participating on scooters, bikes, wagons, strollers and other vehicles, decorated with red, white and blue. The main parade also will feature community vehicles, classic cars and more. The Habersham Central Band of Blue will be the grand marshals for the parade for the first time.
The festival portion begins right after that in Demorest Springs Park, with vendors, crafts and other fun scheduled. The featured musical acts are Steve Bryson and Gregg Erwin, with their concert kicking off around 7 p.m.
There will be a little time allotted between the concert and the approximate start of fireworks around 9:30 p.m. at the ballfields behind the old elementary school, which is the future Demorest City Hall.
Alcoholic beverages will be sold at licensed retailers in town, and folks will be able to carry their drinks purchased there around the streets in town and on Georgia Street, but not in the park. Retailers are planning to issue wristbands to those buying drinks to more easily facilitate that process.
