Historical Society to celebrate 50 years
The Habersham County Historical Society is excited to celebrate the society’s Golden Jubilee on Saturday, March 11. With activities spanning from a showcase of historical artifacts to various performances throughout the day, the event planners hope to showcase the county’s rich heritage.
The event, celebrating the historical society’s 50th Year, is also called the Golden Jubilee Celebration. “The theme is for citizens, companies and the municipalities to present and show artifacts of historical significance,” according to the event’s information page.
“The event started at Piedmont College 50 years ago and now Piedmont University is graciously welcoming us back to use the Commons…” said Maggie Davenport, writer and consultant to the Habersham County Historical Society.
Audrey Davenport, Executive Director to the Historical Society, has had a strong hand in the organization of the event.
“Audrey Davenport is a proud Cornelia native,” Maggie said. “Her background as a graphic designer and business owner for over 20 years and a heart that drives her passion for community development, outreach and service lead her to the Habersham County Historical Society in 2017.
“During (Audrey’s) time at the Society, numerous inaugural events reflective of our diversity were brought to the community. Under her direction and near single-handed management, the Habersham County Historical Society is proud to share this one of a kind event with its citizens and extends a whole-hearted welcome to their 50th Year Gala Celebration,” Maggie said.
The event, which is being held at the Piedmont University Commons, will kick off at 11 a.m. and last until 8 p.m.
