CDL truck driving program expands at North Georgia Tech

North Georgia Technical College will offer new additional classes for Commercial Truck Driving beginning summer semester 2022 to meet the increased demand resulting from federal and state changes.

As of February 2022, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) regulations now require entry-level drivers to successfully complete training through a technical school or other certified training provider to obtain a CDL, upgrade a CDL, or obtain a passenger, school bus or hazmat endorsement. The Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) has also regulated CDL licensure as a pre-requisite to the Electrical Lineworker program.

North Georgia Tech will require students to show proof of a CDL to be admitted into the Electrical Lineworker program beginning summer semester 2022.

NGTC Commercial Truck Driving classes begin May 18. Day and evening classes will be offered at the Clarkesville campus. Acceptance for both the Commercial Truck Driving program and Electrical Lineworker program will continue to be on a first-come, first-served basis. The summer session is full, and applications are being taken for the fall. Scholarships are available through the NGTC Foundation.
