Demorest fire victim identified

A Demorest man died in a camper fire Friday morning on Habersham Mills Road.

Multiple local fire departments were dispatched to help, but the camper was fully engulfed and was a total loss. The investigation was turned over to state fire officials.

Davis Warnell, spokesman for the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance and Fire Safety, said Friday that one man was killed in the fire, identified as Johnny Lee Higginbotham, 54, of Demorest.
