Donation to animal shelter

The Demorest Methodist Congregational Federated Church recently continued its mission of outreach to the community by presenting a check for $3,000 to the Habersham County Animal shelter to aid in the relocation of animals who could be placed in other states, rather than remaining in our overcrowded shelter. Madi Nix, Director of HCACC, said that at this time last year they had 12 dogs in the shelter. This year, they have 60, and many of them need to be relocated, if at all possible. She introduced Bagherra, who is a delightful young mixed breed who was afraid of all people when first dropped off at the shelter. Now, he greets visitors with a happy bark and lots of affectionate attention. Nix says many other states have a much lower number of shelter dogs and they are happy to receive our transfers. When the church members delivered the check, Nix was on the phone trying to organize a driver to deliver a van-full of dogs to New York. She later reported that, as a result of the check, they were able to send 52 dogs to New York where they will be placed in loving homes. The Animal Shelter staff can be reached at 706-839-0195 and donations can be mailed to HCACC at 4231B Toccoa Road, Clarkesville GA 30523.
