Out of roughly 800 public high schools, Habersham Central High School’s 2021 yearbook, Cutlass, has been named the winner of the Georgia Scholastic Press Association large school classification.
The GSPA is part of the University of Georgia Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication and sponsors this network of student publications. Yearbooks from all over Georgia may enter the contest to be critiqued and ranked.
Habersham Central’s yearbook received the distinction of achieving the highest evaluation score in Georgia for the 2021 book titled Uncharted winning the large school category.
Cutlass adviser Selena White along with Editor-In-Chief Jose Virgen Ortiz received the plaques after the awards were posted in November through a virtual ceremony. Virgen Ortiz is a 2021 graduate and a Questbridge Scholar recipient attending Princeton University beginning fall 2021 majoring in Medical Anthropology.
During the fall 2021 semester, Virgen Ortiz was offered and accepted a paid internship with the yearbook staff at Princeton where he served as Editor-In-Training. During the spring semester of 2021-2022 he will have a position with The Princetonian, which is a daily Newspaper Publication at Princeton.
