Chenocetah Tower to Undergo Restoration
HistoriCorps, a national volunteer preservation agency, is partnering with the Chattahoochee National Forest to restore our treasured landmark, the Chenocetah Tower. The second group of volunteers will work from Jan. 17-21. The Habersham County Historical Society (HCHS) is proud to be their local host.
Everyone is invited to help welcome them at a reception held from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 17 at the Mt. Airy City Hall. Face masks are highly encouraged at all events; kindly social distance as space allows.
Additionally, Mondays and Wednesdays between noon -1 p.m.have been reserved for the community to come out and get an ‘up close’ look while the project is ongoing! The media are invited Mondays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
North Trinity Baptist Church singing

Northeast Georgia Brotherhood of Veterans and Patriots meeting
The Northeast Georgia Brotherhood of Veterans & Patriots will meet on Saturday, Jan. 15. Breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m. and the program will begin at 9 a.m. Peter Madruga, the speaker, is president of Habersham Education and Research. He will give a presentation on the Virtual Veterans Wall and other history projects that he is working on. The complimentary breakfast will be provided by the Grant-Reeves chapter of the VFW. We will meet in the fellowship hall of Cornelia First Baptist Church. Masks will be optional and social distancing will not be possible in the fellowship hall. Clarkesville Fire Dept. Chili Cook-Off
The Clarkesville Fire Department is hosting its first annual chili cook-off on Friday, Jan. 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 405 Midson St. in Clarkesville. All procceds go to the Clarkesville Volunteer Firefigher Fund for gear and equipment. It costs $25 to compete and $5 to sample at the event. The singing group “Heart Sound” will be singing at the 11 a.m. service Jan. 30 at Mt. View Baptist Church in Baldwin. Everyone is welcome.
Farm Bureau holding contests for youths
Habersham County Farm Bureau is hosting a Middle School Bookmark Contest to replace the traditional essay contest that has been in the past.
The bookmark contest still has a writing component, requiring students to share why agriculture is important. The contest is open to all sixth, seventh and eighth grade students in Georgia. The district winner will receive a $100 prize and the state winner a $150 prize. All entries must be received at the Habersham County Farm Bureau office by Friday, Feb. 25.

GriefShare meets every Wednesday
GriefShare is for people grieving the death of a family member or friend. The leadership team for GriefShare consists of people who understand how you feel and have a real concern for individuals experiencing the grief of loss. GriefShare leaders have experienced significant losses in their lives and are examples of the healing and restoration that can occur as an outgrowth of deep grief. Clarkesville First United Methodist Church meets every Wednesday at 6 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
Foothills Photography Group monthly meeting
