By Hannah Caudell For the first time in six years, Alto’s town council voted 3-2 to raise the millage rate to 6.2 mills to accommodate the deficit anticipated in the Fiscal Year 2026 budget.

By Samantha Sinclair Today is the last day of early voting for the Nov. 4 election. “We usually see the largest amount of voter turnout on our last day of early voting, since that will be the last opportunity for voters to vote prior to Election Day,” Election Supervisor Laurel Ellison said.

By Samantha Sinclair Saturday was the first day two locations were open for early voting and it was the busiest day for early voting so far with 199 people casting ballots in Habersham County. The pace kept up Monday, with 193 people voting throughout the day.

By Samantha Sinclair Halloween is Friday, and costumed children will be eager to hold out a basket or bag while asking for a treat. While Mt. Airy had a good turnout at its trunk or treat at its town hall Saturday, other local cities will be welcoming families at events Friday. From 3-6 p.m.
