Funeral services for Alvin Grier Jr., 95, of Alto, were held Saturday, Jan. 2, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Donnie Wilkes officiating. Interment followed in Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. 

  Mr. Grier passed away Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2020. 

  Born Sept. 29, 1925, in Habersham County, he was a son of the late Alvin B. and Belle Armour Grier. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, A.M., Otis, Dillard "Bud," Van, Garnett, Wiley, Lemuel, and Roy Grier; and sister, Dorothy Ward.

Junior, as he was known to many, was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He loved getting together with his family for holidays and other celebrations. He was the life of the party! Junior is also known for his love of gardening and working with his mules. He greatly enjoyed driving his mule-drawn wagon in numerous parades in North Georgia, even winning several awards which he was so very proud of. He leaves behind a wealth of knowledge and wisdom that his family will treasure always. 

  Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Elizabeth King Grier of Alto; daughters and sons-in-law, Merle and Paul Reece of Alto, and Karen and David Tomlin of Cornelia; grandchildren and their spouses, Amy and Kerry Autry of Lula, Erin and Charles Gunti of Buford, Vanessa and Edward Marcus of Cornelia, Christopher and Lyndsay Tribble of Gillsville, Adam and Becky Tomlin of Alto, and Isaiah Tomlin of Cornelia; great-grandchildren, Joshua Autry and Andrew Autry, both of Lula, and Ben Gunti and James Gunti, both of Buford; step-grandchildren, Kira Marcus and her children, Salem and Saxton, and Journee Marcus, all of Cornelia; brother and sister-in-law, E.D. and Cathy Grier of Alto; sisters, Geraldine Grier of Alto, and Ruth Swann of Clifton Forge, Virginia; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
