Following the wishes of Janet Taylor Parker, 91, of Clarkesville, the family welcomed friends Saturday, Oct. 30, at Macedonia Baptist Church with a graveside service immediately following.
Mrs. Parker went home to be with the Lord Thursday, Oct. 28, 2021.
Born March 6, 1930, in Clarkesville, she was a daughter of the late Landrum Nevette and Connie Holcomb Taylor. In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Theron Parker; brother, Robert "Bob" Taylor; half-sisters, Gertrude Mauldin, Ann Barlow, and Helen Morrison. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Janet graduated from Clarkesville High School as valedictorian in 1946. After graduation, she moved to Atlanta and worked for the Sears-Roebuck Company (now the Ponce City Market development) and met Fred. They lived in Atlanta and Decatur and later moved to Stone Mountain and raised their family. Upon Fred's retirement, they moved back to Clarkesville, and built a home in the Macedonia community on the farm where she was born and raised. After being an antique dealer for many years in Atlanta, Janet opened Parker Place Antiques on the square in Clarkesville in 1984. She was a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Terri Parker, Brad and Janean Parker, and Landy Parker, all of Clarkesville; grandchildren, Heather Parker of Dallas, Texas, Anne Marie Schleier (John) of Marietta, Allison Felton (Tim) of Apex, North Carolina, Taylor Parker (Brittain) of Birmingham, Alabama, and Landrum Parker (Micah) of Woodstock, six great-grandchildren; nephew and spouse, Fred and Alice Barlow of St. Simons Island; and a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Macedonia Baptist Church, 6396 New Liberty Road, Clarkesville, GA 30523.
The family also acknowledges Janet's long-time caregivers and friends, Grace Ivester, Shirley Ledford, and Angel Hooper and appreciates their wonderful companionship during the final years of her life.
An online guest registry is available for the Parker family at HillsideMemorialChapel.com.
Arrangements were in the care of Hillside Memorial Chapel, Clarkesville.
