Willard Vernon Jones, 86, of Clarkesville passed away Wednesday July 21, 2021.
Born Oct. 28, 1934, in Virginia, he was the fourth child of the late Willard and Olivia Jones, of King and Queen County, Virginia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Roy L. Jones of Clarkesville.
He is survived by his sisters, Amanda Jones of Rogers, Arkansas, and Frances Berry of Little Rock, Arkansas; several nieces and nephews that also reside in Little Rock; his two nieces, Karen Fain and Sandy Lyndon, of Clarkesville; and his nephew, Randy Jones of Vicksburg, Mississippi.
Vernon married Lottie Jones in the 1960's and they had a son, which they called Preston. After divorcing, Vernon stayed single for many years.
In the 1980's Vernon married Norma Jones in Charleston, North Carolina and they were together until her death in 1989.
He joined the Navy at the age of 17 and retired after 20 years of service as an electrician. He then worked in the Civil Service until retiring. He also worked with the Merchant Marines until the late 1990's.
Vernon moved to Clarkesville in 2001 where he lived off of Alec Mountain Road. He was a true believer and studied the Bible every day.
