A funeral service for William "Bill" Fred Roberts, formerly of Habersham County, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, in the Overton Chapel of Fayetteville First Baptist Church, Fayetteville. Interment will follow the service at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City.

Bill was born Mar. 27, 1933, in Habersham County.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Faye Henry Roberts; his brother, James Allen Jim Roberts; and his sister, Elizabeth Beth Maney.   

  Bill earned an Associate of Arts degree from Young Harris College, a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mercer University, a Bachelor of Business degree from Georgia State University, and a Juris Doctor degree from Woodrow Wilson College of Law. A respected military officer in the United States Marine Corps, he served his country through three years of active duty and 11 years of active reserve, attaining the rank of Major. He was a successful stock and bond banker with Wyatt, Neal & Waggoner and public administrator having provided 30 years of leadership to the state of Georgia government including the State School Building Authority, the University System Building Authority, and the Georgia State Financing and Investment Commission, retiring in 1994 after 16 years as Executive Secretary and Director of the Construction Division.

Some of Bill's positions include past president, secretary, and treasurer of the Fayette County Civitan Club and a deacon emeritus of Fayetteville First Baptist Church and a faithful member of the KeyStone Men's Sunday school class. Bill served as trustee of the Employees Retirement System, treasurer of the Young Harris College Alumni Foundation, and member of the Investment Committee Board of Advisors of the Construction Research Institute of the College of Architecture at Georgia Tech. He was past president of Mercer University Presidents Club, a member of the Executive Forum Advisory Committee and the Mercer Athletic Foundation, as well as a generous benefactor focusing on athletic and student services.    

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Judy Dobson Roberts; sisters, JoAnne Roberts of Cornelia and Peggy Seabolt of Roanoke, Alabama; and his nephews and nieces, Steve Maney, Stan Maney, Allen Roberts, Andrew Roberts, and Suzanne Seabolt.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
