Funeral services for William Maxwell "Max" King, 97, of Alto, were held Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Level Grove Baptist Church with Mr. Danny Brooks, Pastor Wes King, Pastor Cody Kelley and Pastor Robert Hill II officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. King passed away Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019.

Born August 8, 1922, in Habersham County, he was the son of the late Peter Lambert and Recie Martin King. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Dorothy Thomas King; daughters, Frances King Kinsey and Nancy Jean King; brothers, Lem King, Edward King, Allen King, Oscar King and Amos King; son-in-law, Jerry Ledford.

He retired from the maintenance department with Fieldale Farms after many years of service. Mr. King enjoyed farming as long as he could and worked as a saw miller. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school for a number of years.

Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, William and Shirley King, Dennis and Kathy King, Jimmy and Karen King, and David and Kimberly King, all of Alto, Wesley and Cindy King of Commerce, and Phil and Terry King of Milton, Florida; daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret Tolbert of Lavonia, Ruth Evans of Hartwell, Grace Ledford of Clarkesville, Christine Martin of Alto, Mary and Jerry Harbin of Hartwell, Anna and Thomas Fowler of Demorest, and Amanda and David Seabolt of Gainesville; sisters, Elizabeth King Grier and Gervis King Taylor, both of Alto; 82 grandchildren; 117 great-grandchildren; and 36 great-great grandchildren.
