THUMBS UP to Habersham Medical Center’s leadership team for seeing through the completion of the newly renovated Habersham Home nursing home facility.
The facility represented 40 percent of Northeast Georgia Health System’s initial promise of $15 million in capital investment into the hospital before its plan to take over its management in November 2024.
The transition is coming sooner on July 1 of this year, but despite dealing with financial challenges that have hurt the hospital’s ability to stay viable at times, the team working on Habersham Home pressed on.
The group led by Director of Operations Mike Armstrong; Nursing Home Administrators Frank Nathan and Destiny Ray; Blake Rainwater & Associates building firm and all the staff members pushed forward to complete this project. This newly-renovated facility offers 84 beds and provides the long-term care our community needs.
Northeast Georgia Health System also stuck to its plan to invest in Habersham County, something they plan to do for a long time. That investment is vital to the economic future of the county, and Habersham Home is a huge piece of that future.
THUMBS DOWN to the Department of Labor, for casting a false light on our local Zaxby’s restaurant with a poorly-worded news release.
Also thumbs down to those who ran with the story without checking out all the facts. The restaurants in question that were cited for child labor laws are in DeKalb County.
It is good for young people to work a job while in high school, and trusting our teenagers to our local establishments is something we want to be able to do knowing they are being treated properly. This erroneous report cast a bad light on our local establishment and it was an unnecessary and reckless mistake.
THUMBS UP to all the volunteers giving back to the community. Whether they are at the animal shelter, the senior center, Habersham United Believers, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the hospital, local churches, recreation coaches, Meals on Wheels, Boys and Girls Club and so many others. Local folks are giving their time to help others and we appreciate you.
It is hard to imagine how some of our charitable organizations would even exist without volunteers with a heart for service. These everyday community miracle workers are the heart of Habersham and provide the kindness that we need to survive every day.
We applaud our volunteers and thank them for the difference they have made in all of our lives.
