In the trying times we live in, it is important to lean on what matters most. That’s faith, family and community.
Last weekend was one of the best of the summer in Habersham County for community engagement. Red White & Tunes in Clarkesville thrilled folks one more time during the Independence season, and Northeast Georgia Medical Center-Habersham hosted a mini festival in their parking lot with food, games, a live band and more.
We are all coping with this heat and starting to prepare for our children and grandchildren going back to school, but it is good in the midst of “Dog Days” to take the time to get out and have some fun together.
Some lucky folks even enjoyed both events on Saturday night, grabbing a little food and then seeing some fantastic fireworks on the bank of the Soquee River. Habersham County has a good cooperative community that tries to space out its big events, giving every town their moment in the sun, like Demorest being the designated host each year for the Glorious Fourth.
The towns also rotate the Christmas parade on a schedule which promotes the sister cities of our community during this special season. Last weekend felt like Christmas in July with so many fun things happening. There is even more to come in September, when the Chattahoochee Mountain Fair and Cornelia’s Big Red Apple Festival return for another year.
These community events are not just about who can eat the most pulled pork or slurp the most Kona Ice without a brain freeze. They’re the heart and soul of rural-America and highlight our quality of life. They make us remember why we chose to live here instead of some awful crowded urban environment.
Our Habersham County is a beautiful place to share fellowship and enjoy the rewards of being in a place where folks care about each other and want to raise the quality of life for everyone.
