How’s the turkey sandwich? Or did you have enough leftovers for a plate? Typically, there are enough leftovers for a plate on the Friday after Thanksgiving with my family. Then we shift to turkey sandwiches on Saturday.
Speaking of Saturday, did you know Nov. 26 is Small Business Saturday? Yes, I figured you did as this has become an annual tradition in our community.
We all need to constantly remind ourselves of the importance of shopping locally to support our businesses who stand ready to serve us daily in Habersham County.
It’s these businesses who help give our downtowns their charm and character. It’s these small businesses who create tax revenue to offset our tax burden as homeowners. It’s the entrepreneurs of these small businesses who create jobs and stand on the front line helping our local schools and sports team. It’s these small businesses who are the rock-solid foundation of our community.
Did you know you can win prizes if you spend $26 or more on Nov. 26? If not, here’s the bottom line. The Habersham Chamber of Commerce, The Mainstreet programs in Clarkesville and Cornelia and The Northeast Georgian have teamed up again for the Shop Local Habersham campaign.
We are encouraging everyone to infuse our local economy by spending $26 on Nov. 26. Then take your receipt, turn it over and write your name and phone number on the back and drop it off at The Habersham Chamber of Commerce, Clarkesville City Hall, Cornelia City Hall or The Northeast Georgian. Each location will have a box for you to slip your receipt in. Yes, you can turn in multiple receipts as long as you spend $26. Also, on Nov. 26 only, The Cornelia Train Depot will be taking receipts.
We will gather all the receipts by the deadline of Dec. 7 at 5 p.m. Then we will have a drawing on Dec. 8 and announce the winners in the Dec. 9 edition. There will be four prizes: a $100 Visa gift card from the Habersham Chamber of Commerce, a gift basket from the City of Clarkesville, a gift basket from the City of Cornelia and a $100 Visa card from The Northeast Georgian.
Thank you for your participation in the Shop Local campaign.
I really hope you win. And daily the staff and I are grateful for your readership!
