To the editor: When this incredibly inane story first broke, it was so unimportant compared to America’s other problems, that I chose to ignore it. I should have known that any story involving a black athlete in modern day America, had to saturate what now passes as “news.”
It was still not important to me. However, I have just read the “news” headline, “White House to discuss Taiwan and Brittney Griner.”
I challenge anyone who my letter may offend, to put your name in the paper and dispute my facts. Read carefully. Three and one-half years ago, a white American was captured, tried and sentenced in Russia, unfairly according to our government.
I can find no one who has ever heard his name. In February, a black American athlete was caught with drugs in her suitcase while in Russia. She was jailed and has pleaded guilty. Since her arrest, my country has apparently imploded. We have experienced mass protests, rallies and the usual social upheaval.
Both our “president” and our “vice-president” have called the female athlete’s “wife” personally. I would point out here that the white American has never received such calls even though he has been locked up much longer.
We are now in the midst of trading spies to Russia for the return of this black athlete and, coincidentally, the white guy.
If there is a reader who does not recognize the possible incredible consequences this stupid reaction by our government could present in the future, please respond.
For just an instant, try to think outside of race.
