Celebrate teachers every week

Last week was Teacher Appreciation Week. However, we believe the entire month of May or school year should be set aside to celebrate our teachers. As they partner with parents, year-after-year to raise the future generations of community, state and world.

We can only imagine trying to contain a classroom full of excitement so close to the end of the school year. Successfully capturing their attention to finish assignments as young minds daydream about summer break activities.

It has to be more than a challenge.

The Habersham County School System has celebrated record years of improving its graduation rate. This past year (2021) our high school celebrated a 98.4 percent graduation rate, which was the leader in our region.

Of course, a lot of the credit goes to the students, parents and administration, but it’s our teacher in the classroom who makes that incredible percentage rate reality.

Our community also has great private school teachers in Tallulah Falls School, Trinity Classical School and The Torch Christian Academy. These hard working teachers also strive daily to improve the knowledge of our children.

Habersham County is blessed to have dedicated teachers serving our children. And we as taxpayers can definitely see a return on our investment in the high-test scores and graduation rates of our children.

Even if you don’t have a student in one of our schools, you celebrate our schools’ success.

You have probably seen the bumper sticker that says, “If you can read this, thank a teacher.” We couldn’t agree more. Our children, the students in our school systems, are the future of this community.

Thank you, Habersham County teachers, for investing in our students which will keep our community on the rise.
