Elizabeth L. Fite: Mourning the loss of Jim Cox

To the editor:

On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I would like to express condolences to the family, colleagues and many friends of attorney James H. “Jim” Cox III of Clarkesville after his passing at the age of 71.

A member of the Georgia Bar since 1975, Mr. Cox began his career as legal counsel for Gulf Oil Corp. and over the next 46 years was associated with several Atlanta firms, including Hurt Richardson Garner Todd & Cadenhead, where he served as managing partner, and later moved to Clarkesville, where he became a sole practitioner and later joined the Carr Law Group, retiring last year. He served his profession as president of the Younger Lawyers Section of the State Bar of Georgia and as a member of the State Bar’s Executive Committee and Board of Governors.

Jim Cox’s long and exemplary career is an inspiration to all members of the legal community. We are appreciative of his many generous contributions to the cause of justice in our state. He will be missed and fondly remembered.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth L. Fite

President, State Bar of Georgia
