To the editor: Habersham County officials recently decided to raise millage rates in the county and did exactly that. Good for them! (Not really.)
Now these same fine folks want to levy an additional penny sales tax on county residents to support road maintenance. They say they can only afford to repave ten or so miles of county roads unless T-SPLOST is approved by voters. At least, this time, voters will have a say in the matter, as opposed to having no say in the millage rate increase matter.
What with the current rate of inflation and the insane price increase in basic foodstuffs (not to mention the cost of gas), I and perhaps the thousands of other Habersham retirees can’t afford to drive on our roads anyway.
I beg Habersham County residents to vote no with me on T-SPLOST. Enough is enough already. If T-SPLOST is approved, I’ll do all my shopping in a county which has a lower sales tax.
