To the editor: As a former 35-year employee of the federal government, the fear factor is not new for me. The latest fear factor is President Putin, his considering the use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine. It is true that Putin is not right in the head… nor are a few other leaders of countries.
The fear factor (in most cases) is like a child having a tantrum… they must have their way. All levels of government use the “fear factor tool” as it is usually effective.
Habersham County used this tactic a few years back; the residents voted no for a SPLOST that year, well, we were given a second opportunity to vote yes for the SPLOST or possibly property taxes may have to be increased so the powers-to-be could obtain the money they needed for another useless project. Some projects for SPLOST are important, but perhaps not all.
Now, on the national and international levels, I suspect we will start to see citizens of the world begin to push back on such threats.
People are tired of the bullying tactics. I believe and hope over the next few years we will see World leaders fail and possibly be de-throned as a push back from their citizens. Leaders and big businesses need wars, etc… not the citizens.
Changes are coming! Do not be surprised at what leaders fail…leaders of countries all the way to governors, mayors, and city managers. The fear factor tool is no longer as effective as it used to be. The “carrot or stick” threat is dying a natural death. Power to “we the people” of the world!
Respectfully,
Ernest Holmes
