To the editor: I have lived in Clarkesville now for over 25 years, and my husband and I have been going to Total Fitness since I retired about four years ago. We were very upset to read about its abrupt closing next week as it has absolutely made such a difference in our physical well being, most especially myself since I have arthritis.
It has also been very positive for our mental and social well being as I think other people and especially seniors like ourselves would agree. It is a clean and friendly facility with a great staff and atmosphere where you feel very comfortable and where we have met so many other nice people in the community, many that are seniors like
ourselves.
That was one of the biggest reasons why we chose it over other facilities in the area in the first place and the many positive recommendations we got from other seniors that were already members.
We have been reading in the paper about HCMC’s financial problems for years and understand them trying to cut costs but were really surprised to read that Total Fitness was actually losing money, especially with the number of many people we see there regularly.
We know what an asset this facility is to us and to the community so we are wondering could there not be a way to maybe bring the Commissioners, community leaders and members of TF together and
come up with other options and be able to keep it open and remain the asset that it is to the members, the Aquatic center and the community?
Please don’t just close down Total Fitness without exploring other options and ideas, it is truly a vital and beneficial part of this community.
