Lots at stake in midterm

To the editor: The open border policy of President Biden and the Democrats has provided the U.S. with a flood of more than 2 million immigrants and, even more devastating, a killer drug business. On Feb. 16, the DEA reported drug overdose deaths exceeded 100,000 over a 12-month period. We see daily reports showing seizure at the border of thousands of pounds of fentanyl, opium, heroin, and other drugs; some disguised as candy. The death totals from these drugs equal the entire number of military deaths from the Korean war and the Vietnam war (Military.com). Our senator, Rev. Warnock, seems perfectly willing to allow the cartels to kill our young people.

The Democrats control many of the major cities in the U.S. The police are handcuffed in these cities by Democrat mayors and attorneys general that believe only felonies should be prosecuted and that those committing misdemeanors should not even be arrested. The result, rampant robberies, shootings and killings. The number of police officers killed each year is astonishing. The shooting death rate among young black males is nothing short of terrible with no response from Joe Biden.

When new President Biden signed folder number seven of 17, he signed away an achievement years in the making – energy independence. Gasoline, diesel and heating fuel prices reached all time highs.  Some governors like Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp instigated a measure of relief by eliminating the Georgia fuel tax. The monetary squeeze on Americans is high and painful forcing some to choose between food and gasoline. The problem is magnified in the U.S. transportation system  High fuel costs have forced layoffs, irregular service and elimination of routes.

Transportation cost increases are one of the major contributors to inflation. The folders signed by Joe Biden on his first day as president led to destruction of conservative strategies that kept inflation under 2 percent. Thus, the Democrats’ strategy of having Americans pay more and get less came into being assisted by multi billion dollar expenditures passed by Congress. Personally, my IRA and other investment accounts have been devalued by more than 11 percent. Cash in savings accounts is likewise devalued.

We are faced with the most critical midterm election that I have seen in my nearly 89 years. If we allow the Congress we have to continue, we can expect an even greater crime rate, an increase in overdose deaths, continuing inflation and a worsening of basic transportation problems. No Democratic party member should be elected.
