To the editor: I’ve read no small number of letters to this paper that make me angry, but the letter from Curtis Stinespring of Hoschton may be a contender for the most hate-filled, godless piece of writing yet.
To write with such vitriol against transgender people, a group he almost certainly hasn’t made the slightest effort to soften his heart toward or to hear their struggles directly really shows the rot in his own soul. There’s a good chance Mr. Stinespring considers himself a Christian and prays in church with the same mouth he uses to call trans-men and women “mentally ill, perverted, and unstable,” and I’m assuming this because these days it’s truly by their bigotry that you can spot far too many Christians.
I don’t want to spend any more time on his unloving nature, but instead I want to tell members of the trans community in Habersham who read this that you do have allies here in Habersham who love who you are and appreciate the vibrant spirits you have. You may be “out” or not yet, but my hope for you is a world in the not-too-distant future where you are safe and valued by all. Please stay hopeful and know that no one knows you better than you know yourself. Protect your hearts and don’t let the loud mouths get you down.
