To the editor: It has been a few years since my last submission, but that does not mean that I have not enjoyed reading the opinions of others in the community. Once again, the Goldens have brought a smile to my face with their latest rantings about President Trump and the Republican Party (Sept. 30, 2022 edition). As entertaining as their latest letter was, there were several errors that I feel compelled to bring to their, and the readers’ attention.
The first issue that I saw was how does the election of Giorgia Meloni as Italy’s first female prime minister equate to Benito Mussolini? Oh, I see! It was in a CNN article on line (https://www.cnn.com/2022/09/25/europe/italy-election-results-intl) where she is noted as the most far-right Prime Minister since Mussolini. The Goldens also noted that she was at CPAP. Where should see speak, at a DNC Fund Raiser? So, let’s see if I have this correct, a Conservative who wins an election in a ‘liberal’ country for the first time in 80 or 90 years, is now seen as another Mussolini? Gee, maybe the Italian people thought “These liberal policies don’t work for us – time to vote for a change.” In the words of Joe Biden, “C’mon, man!”
And I would challenge the Goldens to write in and share with us the names of Republicans who hate Gays, Hispanics and Blacks? And then they make the leap that Republicans want to run the country like Hitler? Wow! That’s rich! I’m just not sure how those dots are connecting.
They go on to claim that Republicans want to end Social Security, healthcare for all and Medicare? Did not Bush 43 add Part D to Medicare? Boy, did he screw up taking benefits away on that one!
One of the best comments is that Republicans want to close the border because they want cheap labor? C’mon man! Everyone knows that the Democrats want open boarders for more Democratic voters.
Here’s an idea for you, drive to Texas, offer to take 10 or 15 illegals to your home, let them eat you out of house and home, run up your electric and water bills, and while they are there, why not give them a free cell phone. Yeah, it makes no sense to do this on a country-wide basis either.
Do I want a gas car? Of course! If I was in Florida during Ian, at least I could have taken some gas cans in my truck to re-fuel to get out of harms way; this is difficult with an EV when the electric grid is down and is in standing water. Oh yeah, electrocution should come to mind also! I could go on, but I’d rather not bore the readers with any more of my ramblings.
However, there is one important point that could explain why the Goldens, and others like them, get these issues so wrong. We live in a Constitutional Republic, not a Democracy. C’mon man, at least get that right.
