To the editor:
It seems to me (and others) that the campaign to repurpose two of the four public tennis courts located behind the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center for pickleball use only has been as much about suppressing tennis in Habersham County as about promoting pickleball. Any efforts at a compromise were put down quickly.
Does anyone really believe the pickleballers will be happy having to share that space with the tennis players? For a community that prides itself on its civility, the way this matter has been handled has left a bad stench. If you’re considering a move to northeast Georgia and you or your kids enjoy playing tennis, maybe Habersham County shouldn’t be your first choice.
