We need a new animal shelter

To the editor:

In the article “County hunting big game for grants” (4-21-2023) I was glad to hear about this effort and hope Ms. Long achieves great results for our community.

Ms. Long mentioned “large grants could make a major dent in the impending costs faced by the county of completing its SPLOST Projects.” Hopefully she is speaking and including the Habersham Animal Shelter, as it was not mentioned. The shelter needs a new home.

Thank you to the Habersham Animal Shelter staff for doing a great job of taking care of our community animals when needed. The staff has gone up and beyond in their care for our animals with the resources they have.

Many people including myself voted for the SPLOST as the Animal Shelter was included in its projected projects. I believe a lot of voters are watching and waiting for a new animal shelter.
