To the editor:
My friend what would you do
if Jesus come to visit you
Would he hinder you from things you do
Or would you be glad to see him go
I bet you would let him in alright.
You have heard he saves from sin
Maybe you would like to wait awhile
Before you could invite him in.
Maybe you would try to find your bible
And maybe dust it off a bit
Try to make a good impression
Like you’d been reading it
Would you feel uncomfortable
Thinking he could read your heart
Maybe seeing the things that’s in it
And feel at ease if he would part
Would you have to hide your obscene books
And put them all away
Just hoping he’d not see them
While he came by to stay
Would you have to watch your language
And be careful what you say
Try to get your place in order
Until he went away
Would you hide away your social drinks
That you wouldn’t want him to know
So you could drink it later
Being proud to see him go.
Would you maybe try to say a prayer
At the table say the grace
Would you try real hard to change some things
Or brighten up your place
Would you like to ask him about your closest kin
Who’d done gone on to be with him.
Would you like him to send them a message
Saying you’d like to join all them
Maybe you’d like to tell him
How much you’d like to change
And by doing so in Heaven
There’d be a brand new name
And maybe you already know him
And you have nothing now to hide
And you could greet him with a smile
And be so glad he’d stay awhile.
