Child abuse prevention highlighted this month

April is National Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month. And for the last decade, we have placed pinwheels on our front pages in April to add focus to efforts to protect the most vulnerable residents. To remind our readers of this sensitive and important community issue.

Abuse takes many forms, including physical, sexual, verbal, emotional and neglect.

Locally, the Family Resource Center (formally known as Prevent Child Abuse Habersham) encourages individuals and organizations to play a role in making Habersham County a better place for children and families.

Family Resource Center supports changing individual life stories for the better.

We support Family Resource Center’s belief that the best way to save our children from the life-altering effects of abuse is through prevention. Focusing on ways to build and promote protective factors, in every interaction with children and families, is the best thing our community can do to prevent child abuse and to promote positive child development.

Like many other non-profits, Family Resource Center was hit hard by the pandemic. Not only did they have to purchase tablets for families to use in Zoom meetings instead of in-person meetings, they also had a lack of funds as fundraising events were canceled.

Would you like to help the Family Resource Center? For as little as $20 you can purchase a pinwheel to place in your yard. The Family Resource Center is selling them this month to help raise funds. To make a donation and get your pinwheel, go to the following website: frcofneg.org.

Thank you, Family Resource Center for all you do! Habersham County, let’s do all we can to protect the most vulnerable among us.
