No kickbacks from Big Pharma

We get all kinds of feedback from the community in the newspaper business, which frankly is what it’s all about anyway. We want the community to comment on what we say and do, and in fact, we have had a monster week for letters and we appreciate it.

Sometimes, folks give us feedback that they do not want to share with the public, at least with their name attached.

We don’t run anonymous letters to the editor and with good reason, but sometimes, the feedback we get is too extraordinary not to share.

One reader told us that we, The Northeast Georgian, are responsible for spreading fear when it comes to the COVID-19 vaccine.

It also was suggested in that same breath that we are “doing the job of the Socialist” and “getting monetary rewards from Big Pharma” for continuing to push the vaccine.

The outright silliness of the latter accusation aside, let’s be as clear as possible - we are not promoting use of the vaccine for any political agenda or gain.

The vaccine has been politicized just like every other thing in this country over the last few years, and there is no reason for it. We have been saying this loudly, but it is worth repeating. We have all been getting vaccines our whole lives for polio, hepatitis and a million other things. We would not have been allowed in school without them, yet people are quitting good jobs just to avoid taking the vaccine because their employer is requiring it.

All we want is for people to listen to science and make the right choice, not for red or blue or a political lobby. Just for you, and your neighbors, and your family.

It was also suggested that our fear mongering over the vaccine is responsible for suicides. Honestly, this is not political. We are trying to save lives.
