Jade Garrison of Jackson County submitted the winning photo for the cover art contest for the summer 2022 edition of Lake Living magazine.
The winning photo features her daughter, Ansley, 4, taken on Memorial Day weekend at Lake Hartwell.
Garrison lives in Commerce with her husband, Kyle, and Ansley. She works at Turner and Patat, an accounting firm in Athens.
She said, during that weekend, both she and Kyle were snapping photos of Ansley, and she believes the winning photo was taken by Kyle on his iPhone 10, using portrait mode.
“We were camping for that Memorial Day weekend, at Paynes Creek in Hartwell, and my husband just snapped the photo on his phone,” she said. “We both take pictures while we’re camping. We AirDrop each other the pictures we both got, and we post them to our Facebook. I had posted [the winning photo] to my social media.”
Garrison said Ansley has “that little angelic face” that makes great photos. Since it was Memorial Day, she had bought little things, such as flags and glow-sticks, for Ansley to hold while they were riding around on the boat.
The family camps at Lake Hartwell frequently.
“Normally, we camp at Lake Hartwell because of the close proximity to Jackson County,” she said. They just purchased a camper and booked several camping trips throughout the summer.
“I grew up camping and horseback riding, but I grew up camping in the mountains, so it’s a little different from lake camping,” Garrison said. “We’ve camped at Paynes pretty much all summer on major holidays. We’ll go again on Labor Day.”
The summer edition of Lake Living magazine – a free publication – is now available at visitors’ centers, chambers of commerce and retailers throughout the Northeast Georgia lake region.
