DAR chapter garners state honors

Three members of the local Tomochichi Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution attended the annual State Conference in Stone Mountain.

Members attending were Chapter Librarian Lynn McCollum, Chapter Registrar, Kay Brown and Chapter Regent, Lucinda (Cindy) Foster Grace.

During the three-day event, attendees were involved in a genealogy seminar, a memorial service for members who passed in the past year and a day long business meeting where State Society members elected the new slate of state officers and modified the State Society By-laws.

During the conference, state chapters are recognized for their work for the year. The Tomochichi Chapter members were honored to be recognized for their work in historic preservation, media outreach, chapter growth and overall chapter improvement. In fact, Tomochichi Chapter took home the first place award for chapter improvement.

On Saturday evening, Chapter Regent and State Historic Preservation Vice-Chair, Cindy Grace had the honor of presenting a Historic Preservation Grant to Amy Wright, Director of the Old State Capital Heritage Center in Milledgeville for the stabilization of the exterior walls of the Depot.

If you are a woman and can prove lineal descent from a Revolutionary War patriot, you are eligible to join the DAR. The Tomochichi Chapter meets the second Saturday of the month from September to May in Clarkesville. The Chapter welcomes all membership inquiries and interested visitors.
