There will be no charges against Georgia State Patrol officers who shot and killed a man at the demonstration at the “Cop City” training center in DeKalb County in January.
Officers shot and killed protestor Manual Paez Teran, and the case was turned over to the Mountain Judicial Circuit and Habersham County District Attorney George Christian to decide whether the use of deadly force was justified.
Christian announced Friday that the use of force was “objectively reasonable” and that no charges will be filed.
“(Teran) refused to comply with the lawful commands of the Troopers to come out of a tent,” Christian said in a release Friday. “The Troopers used a ‘less lethal’ device known as a pepper ball launcher in an effort to have Teran leave the tent. Teran responded by shooting four times with his 9mm pistol through the tent, striking and seriously injuring a Georgia State Trooper. Six Troopers returned fire resulting in the death of Teran.”
