A handful of fully suited and booted area squads descended upon Raider Stadium’s turf for full tackle scrimmages on Monday and Tuesday.
The camp was pushed back a few days due to northeast Georgia’s prolonged stretch of inclement weather last week.
“It’s always a big week for us,” Raiders coach Benji Harrison said. “Obviously, we have a lot of work to do, but I think our guys played tough and made some big plays.”
The camp represents the first time since last season that most players have seen full-steam, 100 percent live action. Even in spring games, referees and coaches can be quick to whistle. This was by no means the case in Mt. Airy this week.
Players were a collective powder keg, exploding between whistles for some incredibly up-tempo playmaking. More than a few scrums broke out, with teammates and coaches having to intervene to break up the quarrels created by the competitive juices flowing.
The Raiders will now get some time off before resuming organized activities with Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ Team Camp on July 13.
