Lady Raiders spike Lakeview in 3

Habersham Central’s volleyball team won its opening match Tuesday night, beating Lakeview in straight sets, 25-17, 25-19, 25-7.

But Lady Raiders coach Lindsey Herrin said her girls still have work to put in.

“I’d be lying if I said I was happy with our performance, even though I know a win is a win,” Herrin said. “We definitely did not play anywhere near our capabilities. We made a lot of mistakes in the first two sets, and I challenged them to prove that the work they put in all summer was worth it.”

The motivation worked, as the Lady Raiders dominated the final set to punctuate the win.

“Allie Church gave us an edge with her hitting,” Herrin said. “When she hit like she is capable of hitting, they could not defend it. Abbey (Donaldson) did a great job with her sets, and Callyn Chosewood really gave us a lot of momentum in the third set serving 10 or 11 points in a row for us.”

The Lady Raiders hosted Seckinger and Banks County in their home opener Thursday night after press time. They travel to Chestatee on Tuesday for matches with the host and Forsyth Central at 5 and 6 p.m., respectively.
