Raiders eyeing new boys basketball coach

Pending approval from the Board of Education, Habersham Central has found its new head basketball coach to lead the Raiders’ program.

According to a pending personnel list for a special-called meeting Friday night, Aric Mawdesley, an assistant coach at Newnan High School, will be the Raiders’ new head coach if the board approves.

Mawdesley would replace Cody Anderson, who resigned to pursue other opportunities.

Last season at Newnan, the Cougars were 19-9 with Mawdesley as an assistant and reached the Elite 8 as the No. 4 seed from Region 2-7A.

Mawdesley has previous head coaching experience at Berrien High School and North Cobb Christian School, and he was an assistant at Truett-McConnell College.

Mawdesley's son is 6-foot-5 guard Mekhi Mawdesley, who starred at Newnan High School last season and plays with Blue Collar Basketball on the travel circuit.
