Demorest crews battle elements once again

   True to their reputations, Demorest Public Works crews went out into the blistering cold last weekend to fix a broken water line near South State Bank in Cornelia.    Demorest’s crews, led by Public Works Director Bryan Popham, have been through a lot over the last 15 months or so.

Raiders earn massive Shiloh sweep

   Habersham’s boys basketball team pulled out an impressive road victory Tuesday, securing a 61-57 win over Shiloh.    “That was a big one. A statement game for us and a huge region win,” said Raiders Coach Tommy Yancey. “I’m definitely really proud of our guys.

Lady Raiders take down Shiloh for second time

   For the second time this month, Lady Raider hoops topped Shiloh’s girls. This time, Habersham got it done on the road, beating the Lady Generals 48-40 Tuesday at their place.    The win marks another impressive notch in the belt of a young team that has exceeded expectations.

Experienced Raiders set to make their pitch

   The Habersham Central boys soccer team began its 2023 season in frustrating fashion. Even as late as the season’s midway point, it seemed like the Raiders were all but eliminated from postseason contention.

County gains firefighters, still hopes for some more

   Habersham County Commissioner Bruce Palmer struck a compromise at budget time last year to get the document passed, gaining three more firefighter positions to gain his final vote.

Raiders name best of the best

   After four years of diligent studying and hard work, Georgia Kerr has been named Habersham Central High School’s Class of 2024 valedictorian with Brad Chosewood being the class’s salutatorian and STAR Student.     Kerr said she has been working towards valedictorian since the 7th grade.

Still time for Clarkesville citizens to contribute to time capsule

   The City of Clarkesville worked throughout 2023 to highlight its rich history as part of a bicentennial celebration. But the city is not done preserving history just yet.    The city will seal a 50-year time capsule from 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Jan.

Class of 2024 valedictorian and salutatorian announced

   Georgia Kerr has been announced as Habersham Central High School’s valedictorian for 2024, and Brad Chosewood has been named salutatorian and STAR Student. Kerr plans to attend University of Miami, and Chosewood will attend Dartmouth College where he will throw shot put.
