   Kerri Davis became Baldwin’s first black council member in January, but the lifelong resident of Habersham County has been leading change in the community for decades.

North Forsyth causes speedbump for Raiders

   Habersham Hoops hosted senior night Friday. Unfortunately for the Lady Raiders, the final home opponent of the regular season was North Forsyth.    North Forsyth’s girls boast a perfect, 24-0 record and have dismantled everyone they’ve played in the region.

Whitney wins region; Lady Raiders to host massive sectional

   It was a busy weekend across Habersham Central wrestling. The Lady Raider squad was in Toccoa Friday for the traditional region tournament, where they placed 7th out of 42 teams. Natalie Spillers and McKenzie Spradley both placed second individually in their weight classes.

Lions hope combo of experience, new technology makes for successful 2024

   Piedmont baseball’s sluggers got a big boost when the program installed Rapsodo hitting technology to its facilities this offseason.    Rapsodo is the official player development partner of Major League Baseball as well as the Team USA baseball program.

   In the wake of Demorest Police Chief Robin Krockum's impending retirement, Demorest City Council approved Assistant Chief Casey Chastain as his successor beginning March 1 at Tuesday's meeting.

One final Endeavour

   NASA’s retired Space Shuttle Endeavour was transported to the partly-built Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center in Los Angeles on Monday to be displayed to the public. Tallulah Falls School students had a part in naming the historic shuttle that flew 25 missions between 1992 and 2011.    Dr.

County fire stations in desperate shape

   A majority of the Habersham County fire stations are in dire need of repairs and renovations according to Jeff Adams, Habersham County Emergency Services Director.    Adams gave a presentation at last week’s county commission retreat on the issue.

Trash still on minds of local leaders

   A major topic of discussion at the Jan. 26 Habersham County Board of Commissioners retreat was the future of the landfill.

Airport ready for another step forward

   Growth is exploding at the Habersham County Airport, as renovation projects are nearing completion and more planes will be on the way to being housed at the facility.    The county was set to pay $3.

Streaking Lady Raiders make pit stop back home

   Habersham Central’s girls basketball team rattled off its fourth straight victory Tuesday, downing region foe Apalachee 42-31 behind Kyia Barrett’s 28 points.    Habersham’s current streak began Jan. 19 with a win over Jaxco. The HCHS girls also won on Jan. 23, 26 and 30.
