Clarkesville veteran earns Quilt of Valor

James Robert (Jim) Patton of Clarkesville recently received a Quilt of Valor in recognition of his distinguished military service. Patton is a retired Petty Officer First Class with more than 20 years active duty with the United States Navy.

Former Georgia First Lady Sandra Deal passes at 80

   Former Georgia First Lady Sandra Deal died from breast cancer that metastasized into brain cancer today at her home in Demorest, surrounded by Gov. Nathan Deal and their family.    Mrs. Deal was 80 years old.

   Habersham Central's volleyball team lost two tough region matches Tuesday night.    The Lady Raiders battled Jackson County, taking the first set but falling in a close third frame, 22-25, 25-22, 15-11. Against North Forsyth, the Lady Raiders fell in straight sets, 25-13, 25-16.
