   For a few hours Sunday, Keila Nichols had to wonder if she lost her husband, who was missing after a boating accident. But before she was overcome by despair and worry, she turned directly to God.

   Five days and two recounts later, Bruce Harkness still had an eight-vote lead over Trent Davis in the District 4 county commission race, putting the former Demorest councilman in the Aug. 11 runoff against incumbent Commissioner Natalie Crawford.

   Gov. Brian Kemp moved Monday to extend social distancing rules for businesses and stay-at-home orders for the state’s most vulnerable populations another two weeks amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.    The governor also plans to extend the state’s public health emergency until Aug.

    The Habersham County Board of Elections and Registration on Saturday evening discovered 19 ballots that were stuck in the voting machines from the recount of the District 4 county commission race from the June 9 election.
