48 arrested with meth, guns, drugs in massive federal bust

   An 11-month joint investigation by local, state and federal officials yielded the arrest of 48 men and women and the seizure of 50 kilograms of methamphetamine and a half-kilogram of heroin worth $705,000 Thursday.

   UPDATE: The women were just located at a store in White County and were taken back to the Emergency Services Command Post. Initial reports are they may have become lost and slept in a field overnight but both appear to be OK.     Around 2:45 a.m.

   Habersham Central High School had plans to kick off a week of senior activities at the end of July with a prom, but Principal Jonathan Stribling canceled those plans Tuesday.    Graduation is still scheduled for July 31 at Raider Stadium for now.

   Bo Hatchett picked up the support of at least two of his former political foes this week, as fellow Habersham County attorney Tricia Hise and Andy Garrison of Jackson County endorsed him in the Aug. 11 runoff against Stacy Hall for the State Senate’s 50th District.

Busy holiday weekend for hikers, tow trucks

   Some patrons of Panther Creek had a rough holiday weekend visit to Habersham County.    A seemingly endless parade of tow trucks has been making the trip from Panther Creek to Cornelia the last two weekends with cars that could not park safely on the side of Historic Highway 441 while hiking.
