Man injured in officer-involved shooting

   A Clarkesville man is in critical condition after an officer-involved shooting at Cameron Place Apartments on Saturday night, according to officials with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.    Multiple officers reportedly discharged their firearms in the incident, which occurred at 6:15 p.m.

Recovery Festival in Clarkesville provides sense of community

   On Saturday, Pitts Park hosted hundreds of people for a Recovery Festival in observance of National Recovery Month.    The Recovery Festival is a drug and alcohol recovery celebration for those who have put down their destructive habits for a better life.

Baldwin to increase millage rate, honors officers

   The City of Baldwin reached a consensus on the 2024 millage rate Monday night.    The mayor and council decided to raise the millage rate by .689 mills to 9.17, the minimum required increase.

Late stand powers Bears past Raiders

   Habersham Central outpaced Cherokee Bluff in several categories Friday in Mount Airy and even held a 10-point lead in the second half. But the Bears (4-0) scored the game’s final 17 points to pull off a 31-24 victory and remain perfect this season.

Lady Raiders win third straight

   For the first time in over two years, the Habersham Central softball team has won 3 straight games. The Lady Raiders (4-10, 2-3 Region 8-5A) took down Johns Creek 4-2 in Mount Airy over the weekend.    There’s no question HCHS got off to a rough start this season.

TFS softball picks up first wins in program history

   There’s no doubt this season has been full of growing pains for the Tallulah Falls softball team. It’s the program’s inaugural season at the varsity level and they entered Saturday with an 0-10 record.

FAIR WEATHER

   The 49th annual Chattahoochee Mountain Fair begins on Friday, drawing crowds of people from all over northeast Georgia.    Reece Watson and Rebecca Mason will perform on the stage to kick off the musical performances at the fair.

Art wall torn down after gang vandalism

   City workers tore down the City of Cornelia’s Free Expression Wall on Wednesday following a surge in vulgar and inappropriate spray paintings, including gang tagging.

Baldwin begins millage rate talks as officials eye possible tax increase

   The City of Baldwin began millage rate discussions on Monday with the main talking point being a looming tax increase.    When the city passed its budget in June, it was expected that a 1.11 mill increase would be required.
